Locked out of your car?

Keys on the seat, keys in the boot, or a fob that’s stopped talking to the car — it happens in car parks, driveways, and petrol station forecourts every day. We’re mobile, so we come to where the car is. Most calls in our service area are reached in about 20 minutes.

How car lockouts are opened

Modern vehicles are opened with proper automotive tools — an air wedge to create a small gap and a long-reach tool to operate the interior handle or lock button. Done correctly this leaves no trace on the paint, the weather seal, or the window.

The reason this matters: the old coat-hanger method that still circulates online was designed for cars built decades ago. On anything modern, the door cavity is packed with wiring, side-airbag components, and the window regulator. People trying it themselves regularly cause several hundred dollars of damage to avoid a much smaller callout.

When it’s more than a lockout

Sometimes the car isn’t locked so much as unresponsive. A fob with a dead battery, a key that turns but won’t start the engine, or a transponder that’s lost its pairing all present like a lockout. We handle car key replacement and programming as well, including transponder and push-to-start keys, so a single visit usually resolves it either way.

If the key has snapped off in the door or ignition, don’t try to pull the remaining piece out with pliers — that tends to push the broken half deeper. Broken key extraction is a quick job with the right tool.

Proof of ownership

We’ll need to confirm the vehicle is yours before opening it. Registration, insurance documents, or a licence matching the vehicle record all work. If everything is locked inside, tell us when you call and we’ll talk through the options.

If a child or pet is inside

Call 911 first, then call us. On a hot Missouri day a closed car becomes dangerous within minutes, and emergency services are equipped to act immediately. Don’t wait on a locksmith in that situation.
