Locked out of your house?

Being locked out is stressful, and stress makes people do expensive things — like breaking a window or forcing a door. A broken window costs more than the callout. A forced door often means a new frame, not just a new lock. In almost every case a locksmith is both cheaper and faster.

We’re fully mobile, so we come to you rather than asking you to travel. Most jobs across our service area are reached within about 20 minutes.

How we get you back in

The goal is always non-destructive entry — opening the lock without damaging it, so you keep the hardware you already have. Depending on the lock, that usually means picking or bypassing the cylinder. Standard residential deadbolts and knob locks open this way the large majority of the time.

Some locks can’t be opened non-destructively. High-security cylinders and certain damaged locks may need to be drilled and replaced, and we’ll tell you before we start if that’s the situation, along with what the replacement costs. You won’t find out afterwards.

What to have ready

Locksmiths are required to confirm you have the right to enter. Nothing complicated — a driver’s licence with the address, a piece of mail, a lease, or a utility bill will do. If your ID is inside the house, we can usually work through it another way; just mention it when you call.

While you wait

  • Check every other door and any ground-floor windows first. People find an unlocked back door more often than you’d think.
  • Don’t try to force a card or a screwdriver into the latch — it typically damages the strike and the door edge without opening anything.
  • If a child or pet is inside and at risk, or it’s dangerously cold, call 911 first.

Avoiding the next one

After a lockout is the right moment to fix the underlying problem. A rekey lets you hand a spare to a neighbour without worrying about who else has a copy. A keypad or smart lock removes keys from the equation entirely, which is worth considering if this isn’t your first lockout. A key lockbox is the cheap version — better than a fake rock, which is the first place anyone looks.
